Today, the lauded Americana quintet Fruition releases their eye-opening and inspirational new song, “Whole World of Trouble.” This track questions the state of society and whether our social constructs unify or divide the majority of people. Fruition reflects on the possibility of peace amidst wars raging abroad and rising tensions at home with an election on the horizon. Listen to “Whole World of Trouble.”
“Fruition had one day off during our recent tour, and we urgently felt the need to record this song, so we used our precious downtime to do just that,” says vocalist and guitarist Jay Cobb Anderson. “We’re never going to make it if we keep seeing each other as separate rather than as one people. We are all human, and if we let politics, religion, class, isms, or pride divide us, we will self-destruct. Compromise, understanding, and love are the only paths to victory—or else we’re all headed for a whole world of trouble.”
The lyric “the only solution is a kinder revolution” encapsulates the song’s spirit, emphatically declaring that our differences should be celebrated and embraced. It calls for a collective understanding that our varying struggles and opinions should encourage communication and benevolence, not division.
Fruition recorded “Whole World of Trouble” live with minimal overdubs during a half-day session in Portland, ME, in late September while on tour. The band felt compelled to release the track immediately, hoping listeners will consider pressing “pause” and contemplate the song’s sincere message. See the full lyrics below.
“Whole World of Trouble” follows the August release of their acclaimed new album, How to Make Mistakes, their long-awaited first record in four years, which received high praise from outlets like Rolling Stone, Glide, Americana Highways, Bluegrass Situation, Live for Live Music, Grateful Web, and more.
