Houndmouth's Bluesy Ode To Fading Romance, "Make It To Midnight"

Houndmouth — vocalist/guitarist Matthew Myers, drummer/vocalist Shane Cody, and bassist/vocalist Zak Appleby — share “Make It To Midnight,” the latest single off their Dualtone Records debut, Good For You (Nov 5). An ode to blurred faculties and the ephemeral beauty of midnight revelry, “Make It To Midnight” paints a well worn midwestern gothic with simple instrumental flourishes and magical lyricism.

The accompanying performance video captures the warmth of Houndmouth’s harmonies and magic of their treasured recording space, an 18th century shotgun style home fondly called “The Green House.” Cozy lamplight sets the scene of a stumbling after hours session, flailing blues guitar and joyous shout-along vocals fighting against a last call they hope never comes.

“Make It To Midnight” is a quintessential taste of what’s to come off Good For You, where Houndmouth’s surrealist storytelling breathes new life into their beloved pastiche of modern Americana. Over ten tracks produced by Brad Cook (Waxahatchee) and Jon Ashley (The War on Drugs), Houndmouth enfolds entire novels within their lyrics: while Elvis faces his demise in “Las Vegas”, the band emerges in the likeness of an intoxicated Cinderella “Cool Jam,” confronting the fleeting joys of aging with fairytale flair.

From Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and SXSW to CBS This Morning Saturday, Conan, Letterman, and more, Houndmouth has continuously transformed humble, Indiana-bred folk into platinum-selling singles (the “defiant, free-wheeling” “Sedona” (NPR)) and sold-out tours. The band is currently gearing up for their first post-pandemic tour dates, including Webster Hall in NYC, DC’s Lincoln Theater, and two nights at Thalia Hall in Chicago. See full dates below.
