Crescent City music legends George Porter, Jr., Ivan Neville, Anders Osborne and Stanton Moore will come together during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival for 'Songbook Live' on Wednesday, April 29 at Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. Presented by health and wellness charity 30Amp Circuit, this one night only engagement will feature four giants of New Orleans' music performing songs from throughout their individual repertoires, as well as, the music of others that has influenced them, while sharing the stories, memories and insights behind the music.
"Ivan, George, Anders and Stanton will bring a backpack full of songs and trade them, share them and explain them to each other and to the audience," explains 30Amp Circuit co-founder Andy Hurwitz. "It's going be a once in a lifetime experience to hear their unique musical memories and then get to witness them performed together in a celebration of each other and their city."
The setting for 'Songbook Live' is the the gorgeous Patrick F. Taylor Library at The Ogden Museum of Southern Art. This intimate gathering will be limited to just 250 seats with all proceeds from ticket sales going to benefit The New Orleans Musicians' Clinic and 30Amp Circuit—two organizations dedicated to preserving the health and wellness of musicians both locally and nationally.
The evening will also serve as an awards ceremony when the 2nd annual 'Songbook Award' is presented to this year's recipient George Porter, Jr., recognizing his incredible contribution to New Orleans' music and culture. Porter is best known as a founding member of The Meters, one of the most celebrated funk bands in the history of modern music.
Last year's inaugural 'Songbook Live' and 'Songbook Award' featured Ivan Neville—the performance from which was recorded and will be released as a live album in late April. Additional details of the release will be announced shortly.
