THE LEE BOYS will bring their blazing, inspirational live show Bonnaroo on Sunday, June15th from 1:15-2:15 in Tent 2 (That Tent). They will also perform on the Sonic Stage that day from 6:00-6:30 PM (following Solomon Burke).
2008 is promising to be a big year for the band. They just performed SIX TIMES over the course of one weekend this year's New Orleans' Jazz Fest. In addition to BONNAROO, thy will be performing at the Austin City Limits Fest, Summercamp, High Sierra, DefFest, Cornerstone Festival, Keystone Blues Fest, and most of the country's most prestigious festivals.
This sextet from Miami transcends the boundaries set by musical genres. An energetic blend of R&B, gospel, hip-hop, rock and country driven by the pedal steel guitar, The Lee Boys win over audiences at jamband fests such as Live Oak and Wannee, folks fests such as Merlefest and the National Folk Fest, and blues/jazz fests such as Chicago Blues Fest and the JVC Jazz Fests. They have jammed with the Mississippi Allstars, Bob Weir, Victor Wooten, Derek Trucks and Susan Tesdesci and opened for Los Lobos, The Black Crowes, Gov't Mule and more.
From USA Today (May 2, 2008):
"The Lee Boys, from Miami, rocked the blues tent with their rollicking You've Got to Move. The song started slow and low but steadily picked up pace, taking on the feel and sound of a runaway train. As guitarist Roosevelt Collier plucked at his pedal steel guitar, an electric guitar mounted on a stand and played from a sitting position, audience members danced in the aisles, jumped up and down and waved their arms to the mounting melody."
From the September 2007 issue of OFFBEAT in New Orleans:
"The Lee Boys guitarist Alvin, vocalists Derrick and Keith Lee and their nephews steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier, bassist Alvin Cordy, Jr. and drummer Earl Walker bring their version of sacred steel to the Maple Leaf September 9 for what promises to be a raucous night of guitar stringbending and rhythmic undulation. Though their music was born in the House of God Church in Perrine, Florida, their sound has become a sensation with a secular audience that responds to its happy foot groove and virtuoso guitar technique."
The Lee Boys' Say Yes! is available on Arhoolie Records. Their newest release is Live At Telluride.
