Reggae collective Naya Rockers partner with the renowned Mike Love for their new single, "Long Way Down," a powerful track that combines the essence of Ska and Rock Steady with a message that resonates deeply in today’s world.
The creation of "Long Way Down" was inspired by the resilience of communities standing against oppression and the realization that real change often starts from the ground up. It channels the spirit of classic reggae with its infectious rhythms while delivering a timely message of resistance.
The track features a stellar lineup of musicians who bring the track's rich sound to life. With Nathan Sabanayagam on drums and percussion, Nate Edgar on bass, and Cameron Greenlee on keys, the rhythm section lays down a solid foundation. Guitarists Andy Bassford and the legendary Earl “Chinna” Smith add their signature touch. Vocals were tracked and engineered by Mike Love. Guitar overdubs were laid down, and the track was mixed at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, by Stephen Stewart and Michael “Boxy” Howell.
“This song is about waking up to the reality of what’s happening around us,” says Love. “It’s a call to plant seeds of change and question the status quo, recognizing that those who exploit and divide are losing ground in the long run.”
The collaboration with Mike Love marks a significant milestone for Naya Rockers, who are dedicated to creating music that not only entertains but also sparks conversation and introspection. "Long Way Down" is more than just a song; it’s a musical rallying cry that challenges listeners to look deeper into the structures of power that influence our lives. With lyrics that speak to social consciousness and unity, the track invites everyone to be part of the movement toward change.
“We wanted to create a song that captures the spirit of reggae as a tool for protest and a voice for the voiceless,” says the band. “Working with Mike Love brought an authentic perspective that made this track even more powerful. It’s about standing up to those who think they can manipulate and control for their own gain and realizing that their fall is inevitable.”
As Naya Rockers continue to build their catalog of reggae-infused anthems, "Long Way Down" stands out as a testament to their mission of merging timeless sounds with urgent messages. It’s a reminder that even in a world dominated by corporate interests, the spirit of resistance and resilience endures.
"Long Way Down" will be available on all streaming platforms on October 25th, 2024.
