April 26 marks a celebration of Grateful Dead music and community as Mr. Hat Presents brings One More Saturday Night in Sugartown to Toot’s Tavern in Crockett. This lively, 21+ event kicks off at 8:00 PM, promising a night of electrifying jams, infectious dancing, and welcoming vibes at one of the East Bay’s quirkiest neighborhood venues.

A Transcendent Grateful Dead Experience

Headlining the evening is Todd Bugbee’s Dead Roses, a powerhouse tribute act formed in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dead Roses is known for its faithful devotion to the Grateful Dead’s improvisational spirit and timeless catalog. The band’s seasoned lineup includes:

Stephanie Hartwell-Mandella on vocals, whose soaring voice has recently dazzled fans with Melvin Seals and JGB, establishing her as one of the Bay Area’s finest.

Todd Bugbee and Nate Beltz on guitars, channeling the interplay of Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir through intricate melodies and soulful harmonies.

Tim Baker on bass, carrying the Phil Lesh tradition of deep and groovy basslines at the heart of the music.

James Miller on keys, adding vibrant textures in the spirit of Ron “Pigpen” McKernan and Keith Godchaux.

Preston Barnes on drums, infusing the beat with the propulsive energy that propels the classic Grateful Dead vibe.

Special Guest: David Gans & The Broken Angels

Joining Dead Roses is David Gans, a renowned songwriter, guitarist, Grateful Dead historian, author, and radio show host. Gans founded The Broken Angels back in 1997, and the band was even joined by Phil Lesh for a couple of shows. On April 26, Gans will be performing Dead tunes alongside J. Raoul Brody, Dave Jess, and a surprise drummer, showcasing their signature blend of musicianship and joyful improvisation.

A Neighborhood Gem in Sugartown

Nestled in charming Crockett—affectionately known as “Sugartown” for its history with the C&H sugar refinery—Toot’s Tavern offers a friendly, laid-back atmosphere perfect for a Grateful Dead dance party. Attendees can grab dinner beforehand from nearby eateries like Crockett Cocina or 4 Corners Pizza and bring it into the show. With cheap drinks, ample space to dance, a pool table, and a welcoming crowd, Toot’s Tavern stands out as the place to be for this Saturday night extravaganza.
