Magnolia Pictures, HBO Documentary Films, and Mercury Studios are proud to present ONE TO ONE: JOHN & YOKO, an expansive new feature directed by Academy Award® winner Kevin Macdonald. Produced by Peter Worsley and edited & co‑directed by Sam Rice‑Edwards, the documentary delivers an immersive look at eighteen transformational months in the lives of John Lennon and Yoko Ono—culminating in their storied One to One benefit concerts at Madison Square Garden on August 30, 1972.
Drawing on electrifying, never‑before‑seen footage newly restored for IMAX, the film captures Lennon’s only full‑length concert after departing The Beatles. Complementing the visuals is music newly remixed and produced by Sean Ono Lennon, offering audiences a powerful sonic experience that places them in the front row of this historic performance.
Filmed inside a meticulously faithful re‑creation of Lennon and Ono’s Greenwich Village apartment, ONE TO ONE immerses viewers in the couple’s creative and political awakening in early‑’70s New York. A dynamic collage of period television clips—Vietnam War broadcasts, nightly news, game shows, and pop‑culture ads—mirrors what the pair absorbed daily, underscoring how the era’s turbulence helped shape their activism and artistry.
Renowned festivals have already taken notice: laurels from Venice, Sundance, and Telluride adorn the film’s poster, alongside raves such as Variety’s “THE RARE ROCK DOC THAT’S A MUST‑SEE” and Moveable Feast’s “AN UNBELIEVABLE CACHE OF PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS.”
