Twelve years after the original release of their cult classic, Storm Corrosion, the renowned collaboration between progressive music icons Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) returns with a special reissue. On September 27th, Kscope will unveil this genre-defying album in LP, CD, and Blu-ray formats, featuring a new Dolby Atmos remix by Steven Wilson, a previously unreleased live recording of “Drag Ropes” from London’s Royal Albert Hall, and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.

A testament to their boundary-pushing artistry, Storm Corrosion transports listeners into a haunting, psychedelic realm. Drawing inspiration from 60s/70s German pioneers like Tangerine Dream and Popol Vuh, British folk heroes such as Nick Drake and Bert Jansch, and eclectic figures like Scott Walker, the album creates a mesmerizing, transcendent journey—one you never quite come back from.

“In many ways it’s become the cult classic we always intended it to be,” Steven Wilson reflects on Storm Corrosion. “It remains one of my favorite releases in my whole catalogue. It was pure fun, experimenting with sounds that were as bizarre and off-the-wall as we could imagine.”

Mikael Åkerfeldt adds, “This record is strange in the best way possible. Even after all these years, it still pulls me in as a fan, not just as someone who created it. The magic it holds is unique. I’m so happy to see it available again.”

For Wilson and Åkerfeldt, Storm Corrosion was never about following the expected path. They sought to create something entirely new, blending chamber folk, orchestral arrangements, and dissonant psychedelia to push the boundaries of their sound. With each listening, the album's depth and atmosphere reveal new layers of complexity and emotion.

Whether this reissue reignites calls for a follow-up remains to be seen. Both artists are deeply engaged in their respective projects—Steven Wilson with his solo work and Mikael Åkerfeldt leading Opeth. However, fans can only hope that the duo’s paths will cross again in the future for another round of otherworldly collaboration.

As Åkerfeldt puts it, “This record has got something… It’s quite unique. And I think that’s why some listeners are completely and utterly in love with it.”
