There are many faces and aspects of love, and Tennessee singer/songwriter Joseph LeMay hits on many of them on his first full length album, Seventeen Acres. From past or potential love to new love to lasting and exciting love, his songs take you through the emotions of such experiences not only as they relate to relationships, but to life in general.

Representing’s titular track opens harmlessly enough with pan flutes that could’ve come right out of a fifth grade recorder songbook—off-beat, a few clinks on the cymbals, notes here and there... and then those reverb-laden drums start to build in the fourth bar, the trills become methodical... and we’ve arrived.From here on out, the album can be divided into two halves—the first, a solid mix of old simplicity and new production, an all-around fun listen without many breaks.

California based Jimmy Pinchak composes in an eclectic style borrowing from Rocking Blues music, combined with an Alt-Rock aesthetic. His lyrics share a black humor/self-deprecating sensibility. He writes of the mundane and the complex, and probably doesn’t understand everything but questions what he already knows. His latest debut CD entitled Make it Better captures the spirit of more Blues based rock material from Bon Jovi, Goo Goo Dolls and even Keith Urban.

Roman is obviously vocalist is an accomplished singer/songwriter. Each style, each song on this CD expresses something a bit different than the other - a complete moment if you will. To me it’s comparable to looking into then suddenly experiencing what it is to be inside a snapshot of time. Some of the snapshots are silly or laugh-out-loud funny, some serious and passionate. Others are of contentment, exuberance, sadness, reverence. It’s a time capsule of time really.

Gypsy Lumberjacks are a Minneapolis based Americana band with a sound consisting of a mix of World Beat, Flamenco, Caribbean, Gypsy Jazz and Bluegrass. With such a range of influences, there is something for everyone to latch on to in the music. Known for never performing with a set list, Gypsy Lumberjacks prefer to rely on each other’s leads and changes. Their latest work entitled “Pulling Upon the Strap” was released in 2014 and I was blown away with what I heard.

The Raised By Wolves recently released the music video "Freddy Freaker" - a track from the band's debut album Sadie Hawkins (2013). As the band explains it, "The video is a surreal exploration of the inevitable and often dissonant evolution of friendships over time." The green triangle used in the video appears to represent the concept of how all relationships remain balanced over time. The bonds of friendships may strengthen or deteriorate, yet the amount of change is equal to amount of time explored.

There was a time when the singer/songwriter troubadour type of music seemed to be a dying breed. Then, somehow over the last couple decades it seems like there has been a resurgence of interest in just great songs, delivered with passion. That’s what this set really is. Sure, it has some range of musical style, but overall this is most like the great singer/songwriters of the 1970s, but with a modern sensibility.The opener “If I Can't Have You” has sort of a split personality. In some ways it feels like a folk rock, roots rock tune.
