The Band

The opulent and ornate Orpheum Theater located in the original theater district of downtown Los Angeles played host to a very special concert, Thursday night April 13. The Last Waltz 40 Tour, billed as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Last Waltz concert by The Band, was originally meant to only be a one-time tribute concert in New Orleans.

Garth Hudson, one of two remaining original members of THE BAND and Taj Mahal the multi-GRAMMY AWARD®-winning blues singer-songwriter-composer have been added to remaining dates alongside Warren Haynes, Dr. John, Jamey Johnson and Don Was on the second leg of the 2017 “LAST WALTZ 40 TOUR.” Garth and Taj will be playing all dates listed below to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Band’s historical farewell concert.

Due to overwhelming demand on the first leg of The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz, Blackbird Presents is proud to announce additional tour dates beginning on March 30, 2017 at the Verizon Theatre in Dallas, Texas and running across multiple U.S. cities throughout the month of April. Garth Hudson, one of two remaining original members of THE BAND, will be joining the 2017 “LAST WALTZ 40 TOUR” for two special shows at The Palace Theatre in Albany, NY and MGM National Harbor in Washington, DC to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Band’s historical farewell concert.

Hudson, the iconic multi-instrumentalist has been credited by his band members and brothers Robbie, Levon, Rick, and Richard for being the resident musical genius of The Band and helped create their unmistakable sound.

On August 1, 1973 The Band opened for Grateful Dead on Jerry Garcia’s 31st birthday, making for one of the most memorable nights in American rock & roll history. On Friday, August 1 of this year, forty-one years later, Dark Star Orchestra and The Band tribute act, The Weight will be recreating this entire show for “A Very Jerry Birthday Jam” at Heritage Amphitheater at Pocahontas State Park.
