Say hello to Southern California’s newest music festival, Same Same But Different (SSBD), coming September 22nd and 23rd, 2018. This inaugural two-day music & arts festival will celebrate the end of summer in a jaw-dropping setting and feature a diverse range of multi-genre musical acts that build in energy throughout the day. On Saturday, performances from Lettuce, BoomBox, Through The Roots, The Family Crest, and more will take place across the festival’s two stages.
The temperature was perfect, and there was an early start to the night with the leader in British funk, The New Mastersounds. The Wales Ambassador, Eddie Roberts and his boys took the stage and wasted no time at all. Their flavor of funk is a unique, intricate, classy guitar-heavy instrumental sorcery. On this night, they even added a horn section to join them. As a side note, once at an ARISE Music Festival press conference that I was leading, I unexpectedly asked Roberts why he thinks that the tiny area of Great Britain produces so much brilliance in music, art, literature, etc. It was an idea that always baffled my mind how an area the size of Kansas can make so much beautiful art. His answer was brilliant. He responded after a pause with, “Misery.” Everyone in the room got a laugh, and one of my life long-burning questions was revealed. When their set came to an end after only 45 minutes, Roberts thanked the crowd and said that it seemed short, but that was because they are so used to often playing for 3 hours plus.
A little house, a little blues, a little funk, a little rock, and a whole lot of soul blast through BoomBox.
Since first emerging in 2004, founder, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Zion Rock Godchaux has been quietly seasoning this simmering recipe to perfection. However, it reaches a boiling point on his forthcoming 2018 fifth album, Western Voodoo [Heart of Gold Records].
At the same time, the Muscle Shoals, AL native stays true to what attracted countless fans in the first place.

It's the end of summer. Labor Day weekend – arguably one of the best times of the year to be a Chicago resident. The de facto end to summer is a time that Chicagoans tend to embrace, as a sort of reminder that we do have a bit of time before the tundra-like conditions of winder arrive mere months (or, gulp, weeks) from now. It makes perfect sense, then, to use this time to hold an eclectic music festival that hosts bands and artists ranging from funk to EDM and from rock to hip-hop.
Music fans from all over the region are encouraged to join in the celebration of the inaugural Believe in Music Festival held Saturday, July 26 at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, MD. Featuring live performances from Thievery Corporation, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Jimmy Cliff, Lake Street Dive, BoomBox, The Bridge and DJ Who featuring Believe in Music Kids.
