For almost a year, Jorma Kaukonen has been there for thousands of fans. Since April 4, 2020, with a wry sense of humor, Jorma intersperses music with lifetime stories, fields fans' questions with honesty and engages with his family live on YouTube. The music has not stopped! This Saturday, March 6, will be Quarantine Concert #40. And they will be celebrating their one year anniversary April 3, 2021.

Jorma Kaukonen, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient is a founding member of two legendary bands, San Francisco’s ‘60’s band, Jefferson Airplane and his still-touring Hot Tuna, a duo with Jack Casady. In a career that has spanned more than 60 years, guitarist and songwriter Kaukonen is a highly respected artist who always adds new energy into his music, expressing himself cleanly and clearly, creating his unmistakable sound.

All the world’s a vibration, yet music remains in the abstract, lurking in the formless world of potential, eagerly awaiting the inspiration of someone to bring it to form. The musician, in answer to this calling, illuminates what was once invisible, carrying us into the mind and heart of a moment, an emotion, or to the edges of the universe itself. Like an astronaut, these bards reveal a dimension of being, one central within all of existence—Feeling, the explorations of which seems to know no bounds.

When I first heard John Hurlbut’s and Jorma Kaukonen’s acoustic album, The River Flows, my being instantly welled up to the sound, welcoming it like an ocean does a river. With tears filling my eyes, the quality of the music made me realize—There’s something about greatness that opens the soul to living. What was it that I was experiencing which caused me to think such things, to feel such sentiment? John and Jorma’s touch begs the asking.

This December, Grateful Web had the opportunity to catch up with guitarist, singer and songwriter Michael Falzarano. Michael is a tenured veteran of legendary bands New Riders of the Purple Sage and Hot Tuna, a regular contributor at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch, and bandleader of his own long-standing Memphis Pilgrims and Dead Tribute group, The Englishtown Project.

Jorma Kaukonen's Quarantine Concert #28 featuring Electric Hot Tuna will air this Saturday, November 28 at 8 p.m. EST from The Fur Peace Ranch Guitar Camp in Ohio.  When Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady plug in the excitement commences. Then add Justin Guip on drums and the sound explodes and surrounds you with tones and rhythms!

I’m not a fan of Thanksgiving. I like being with family, the time off from work and of course all the decadent trimmings, but sadly it now signifies personal tragedy. Even the weeks heading towards Turkey Day causes debilitating anxiety. (Try not to die on a major holiday. It makes the healing process more arduous.) This year, due to the pandemic, my emotional state is much worse. I will be home instead of trying to enjoy a little vacation get-a-way to distract from the nightmare that transpired. Avoiding the day and skipping straight to Christmas never seemed like a possibility.
