Old Salt Union
Old Salt Union’s lead vocalist, bassist and songwriter Jesse Farrar has been in the Compass Sound Studio working on a solo project slated for release on Compass Records in 2022. In contrast to his work with alt-string-band Old Salt Union, Farrar’s solo debut is a more textured, Americana-leaning affair, placing him squarely alongside angst-driven indie folk singer/songwriter luminaries like Elliott Smith and Sufjan Stevens.

Located along the serene Maremac River, Lost Hill Lake offers a natural venue and spot for a festival of interactive workshops and large, late night bonfire jams. Two stages are separated by the shade of a 50 year-old walnut grove, where the audience can participate in camping, have lake and river access and an assortment of food, artisan crafts and more. The 14-band lineup consists of local, regional and national touring bands performing a range of traditional and progressive bluegrass, jamgrass, Americana folk and more.
Every Thursday at Cervantes Other Side in Denver, CO they feature a bluegrass night. On this night, Joseph James Brewing Company featured this week’s Grass For That Ass jam. It had been nearly a year since Jeff Austin took the stage at George’s Majestic Lounge. This time he did so with his very own band and his very own style: electrifying. From the moment The Jeff Austin Band took over a red hot stage from openers, Old Salt Union, the energy never waned. Opening their set with the classic “Raleigh and Spencer” we knew immediately that Austin was there to please the fans.
Yet another beautifully sunny day graced us on Friday at Yonder Mountain String Band's Harvest Music Festival. Not a drop of rain and enough sunshine to charge cell phones (a rarity among the few most recent Harvest festivals.) There is such happiness floating through the campsites and stages, families are playing and wrangling children, and barbeque nachos are in my near future. Life is good.
