It’s a packed house Friday night at SF’s The Independent, and fans are jammed tight for experimental folk rockers Akron/Family. Crafting an indigenous vibe with some pagan artifacts, a frilled turquoise Cherokee quilt is draped over Miles Seaton’s keyboard, as the band shuffles unassumingly onto the stage.

Sara Lucas’ voice soared on Saturday night at the Larimer Lounge in Denver, cutting through the hypnotic guitar and drum rhythms of Ryan Seaton and Don Godwin, respectively. Brooklyn’s Callers were in town supporting Wye Oak on a tour that began in Tucson, AZ on March 21^st and ends on April 15^th in Philadelphia.

Kicking off one of the few final stops on the Winter Greens Tour, the first band to start the night off was Los Angeles-based Orgone. Quite the eclectic ensemble (from fabulous afros to cowboy hats and boots), Orgone’s rhythm section originally got their start back in the nineties and it wasn’t until 2001 that they brought on Fanny Franklin to lay down the lead vocals.

The Band of Heathens kicked off their West Coast tour on Tuesday at the Oriental Theater in Denver. The show also marked the release of the Americana rock band’s new LP Top Hat Crown & the Clapmaster’s Son.

Short and sweet can be a good thing, but when it’s good, everybody wants some more. British musician Lee MacDougall certainly showed that he could satisfy, but unfortunately for the very few that showed up for his performance at the Larimer Lounge, it was a moment that lasted not quite long enough.

Knoxville, Tennessee indie trio Royal Bangs will release their third LP Flux Outside March 29^th on Glassnote Records. It’s not everyday that an album like this lands on the desk. Sounds like psychedelic prog-pop, maybe…they prefer to call it “easy shred computer jam.” Whatever it is, the musicianship is incredibly tight, the sound intricate and full.

Toronto based Dinosaur Bones released their first full length album, My Divider on March 8^th. Reasonably subtle, it presents itself without a whole lot of pushiness and allows the listener to take their time sifting through and discovering its fullness and vast idiosyncrasies at leisurely pace.

On April 5^th, New York City based, multi-ethnic reggae outfit Easy Star All Stars will release their first full length record of original material entitled First Light. Famous for their reggae reworkings of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Radiohead’s OK Computer, and Sgt.
