Roger Waters
On this day, September 6th, 2024, we turn our gaze to the enigmatic Roger Waters, the architect of so many soundscapes that have twisted and turned through the minds of listeners for over half a century. From the moment Pink Floyd first whispered its name into the ether, Roger’s voice—sometimes a roar, sometimes a murmur—has been there, guiding, provoking, questioning.

In March 1973, something like floodgates opening happened for Pink Floyd when their then-brand-new concept album, Dark Side of the Moon, was set loose upon an almost unsuspecting world. Tuned-in fans of the then-still-cult band who had heard the live ‘draft’ version – still known well into mid-1972 as Eclipse: A Piece for Assorted Lunatics – on a hefty clutch of spring dates were breathlessly awaiting it.
The Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd’s time-honored concept album with an ominous pulse from start to finish – came screaming into the world like a proverbial newborn, seemingly fully formed and full of life, on March 1, 1973.
Fifty years. Doesn’t it seem like no time at all?
For some of us, it was, indeed, a lifetime ago.
Two years after its postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Roger Waters’ “This is Not a Drill” tour touched down in Sacramento, California, on September 20 for an epic, spectacular in-the-round performance. The lavish, multidimensional two-set show was all at once a rock show and a theatrical drama played out via bold visuals displayed in text, images, and video clips on massive LED screens, and also featured a couple of airborne components (pig and sheep dirigibles).
Tuesday, Roger Waters brought his This Is Not A Drill tour to the Mile High City and gave the 19,000 in attendance just what they were looking for: two sets of amazing music, eye candy, epiphanies, and floating farm animals.
