For so many of us, Dad's gift to the world was music,” reflects Duane Betts, son of the late Dickey Betts, guitarist, singer, songwriter and co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band. “I'm so happy to come together with some very special friends to honor the depth and beauty of his life and, of course, to share that sweet, melodic sound he is so well known for.”

March 2020 was memorable for many reasons, but for thousands of concertgoers in New York City one special night still stands out: March 10th when The Brothers took the stage at Madison Square Garden to celebrate the legacy of The Allman Brothers Band. Five years later, The Brothers have announced their long-awaited return to the famed arena for Tuesday, April 15th and Wednesday, April 16th.

Prepare to rejoin the mesmerizing journey through the golden era of psychedelic blues and the roots of the jam band scene as Live Dead & Brothers takes the stage. Composed of actual and legacy members from the extended Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers families, this exceptional ensemble is set to revive the timeless magic of two halcyon repertoires, delivering an experience like no other.

“For so many of us, Dad's gift to the world was music,” reflects Duane Betts, son of the late Dickey Betts, guitarist, singer, songwriter and co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band. “I'm so happy to come together with some very special friends to honor the depth and beauty of his life and, of course, to share that sweet, melodic sound he is so well known for.”

Watching them, it doesn’t hurt that the junior Allman and Betts share their dads’ genetic exteriors. Betts, in particular, has features that emulate his famous father. Better still, Devon and Duane’s voices have tone and timbre similar to Gregg and Dickey, and their guitar shredding and (for Devon) organ skills would make their papas and Uncle Duane proud. I’m still going to vote for Derek Trucks as the top of a very impressive heap in this generation of Allman Bros. spinoffs—but he actually played in the Allman Brothers, so maybe he doesn’t count. I suppose that bumps D & D up to the pinnacle.
