City Parks Foundation is thrilled to announce the 2019 season of Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage, New York City's largest free outdoor performing arts festival, bringing nearly 100 free and benefit shows to Central Park and 17 neighborhood parks throughout the five boroughs. This year's festival will showcase 200 renowned artists and rising stars from around the world to local neighborhood parks, presenting distinctly New York genres -- salsa, jazz, and hip-hop -- alongside indie, reggae, Afrobeat, soul, contemporary dance, and much more.
Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton revolutionized R&B during the ’70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-’60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. The Parliament/Funkadelic machine ruled black music during the ’70s, capturing over 40 R&B hit singles (including three number ones) and recording three platinum albums. Born in Kannapolis, NC, on July 22, 1941, Clinton became interested in doo wop while living in New Jersey during the early ’50s..

Crowds of people flooded into the campgrounds and festival the second day of Lockn’ music festival 2018. By early afternoon a sea of color was visible as far as the eye could see. The event was indeed a multigenerational magnet composed of six decades of jazz, funk, blues and rock jam music. Grandparents dressed in tie-dyed Grateful Dead shirts joined their offspring many in Phish tie-dyes. Whole families brought their children, grandchildren and maybe even a few grandchildren creating a festive carnival-like atmosphere.
"This has been coming a long time," he states. "Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years have noticed that I've been out front less and less. The shows have been great!" Truth be told it's never really been about me," he continues. "It's always been about the music and the band. That's the real P-Funk legacy. They'll still be funkin long after I stop."
