Jerry Garcia

By 1987, the Grateful Dead had lived many of their nine lives but were about to embark on one not a soul had seen coming. In The Dark , their first studio album in seven years, had spawned a hit (A TOP 10 SINGLE FOR THE GRATEFUL DEAD?!) and "Touch Of Grey" begat a new generation with their fanny packs and their MTV and their undeniable quest to join the party already in progress. And boy, did the Dead let them in! But not without fine-tuning their sonic vibes to meet the new demand.

Exciting news from the (world champion) Boston Red Sox, who will honor Jerry Garcia at Fenway Park on Tuesday, August 6. With the purchase of your ticket through this special offer, you will receive a Jerry Garcia Red Sox t-shirt. Sizes will be available first-come-first-served in S-XL. Plus, you won’t want to miss the special pre-game concert on Jersey St. by the Terrapin Band! A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Rex Foundation.

Hold on to your hat, we’re coming in strong with one from the Windy City that’ll have you movin’ and shakin’ from start to finish. DAVE’S PICKS VOLUME 31: UPTOWN THEATRE, CHICAGO, IL 12/3/79 signals a true rebirth of the Grateful Dead, reimagining classics and foreshadowing their 80s sound. This is as much in part due to freshly-minted member Brent Mydland bringing the organ back in as it is to Jerry finding new vivacity with his custom Wolf guitar. New guy, new guitar – it all makes for a heck of a good time!

Larry Keel is described by music critics and reviewers as the most powerful, innovative and all-out exhilarating acoustic flatpicking guitarist performing today. Keel has absorbed the best lessons from his Bluegrass family upbringing, both sides deeply steeped in the rich mountain music culture and heritage of Southwest Virginia. From there, he has always integrated that solid musical grounding and natural-born talent with his own incomparable approach to playing amplified, acoustic guitar and composing original music.

Our band and the music have evolved over the years. We feel now, it’s the best its been in a very long time. Zach Nugent contributed to that and we thank him for the last few years. As the men who came before him, we don’t doubt he will succeed in the telling of his own story…channeling the man we all love so much.

Zach will be with us through June, July, and up to August 1 at The Werk Out Festival.

The Garcia Project will do an eight night run on the east coast in from August 1 through 10 - Celebrating the life of Jerry Garcia, The tour kicks off at Garcia’s on August 1, celebrating what would have been Jerry’s 77th birthday. The Garcia Project performs full, classic Jerry Garcia Band set lists from 1976 - 1995 and have been called the DSO of JGB.

The San Francisco-based Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band arguably played some of their most prolific shows on the East Coast, as strange is it may seem. Those spectacular primal billings at Bill Graham’s Fillmore East entering the 1970s, “the best show that almost didn’t happen” in May of 1977 at Boston Garden, Clarence Clements ethereal sit-in with Jerry Garcia Band at Great Woods, Massachusetts in fall of 1989.

Now, Let us not forget Lettuce's 2018 Lockn’ Music Festival Jerry Garcia Band set. Due to the overwhelming amount of hype and love that set received, Lettuce figured to give the people what they want and reprise that set at their Rage Rocks show. Clearly, an already amazing set, but just to amp it up, even more, they added the addition of legendary keyboardist Melvin Seals. Melvin Seals, long time Jerry Garcia Band member and what we all know as a pioneer to jam band music as we know it. His happy attitude made us all smile, and his charisma and chemistry with Lettuce was a perfect fit.
