Jam rock titans Phish kicked off their annual new years eve four day run at the famed Madison Square Garden in the heart of New York, NY for the first time in three years. This time honored tradition was rescheduled in 2021 and never scheduled in 2020 based on complications from the COVID-19 virus. This year's attendance was also affected by the Southwest Airlines meltdown, as many fans were left stranded and unable to walk though the doors of this legendary building.
For many, Labor Day weekend always means a three-day weekend for the hard working, but for the jamband community, it always means Phish is going to blow minds and melt faces just outside the Mile High City. Although this staple has been reenacted now eleven times since 2011, this year got a little something extra: a fourth night. This attribute is something phans have been rumoring, wishing, begging, and pleading for on message boards and in conversation for quite some time and 2022 was finally the year the dream came true.
The jam rock icon Phish returned for their second three day stint in Atlantic City, NJ last Friday night, and turned the famous boardwalk into a raging dance party. The set was decorated with ocean themed songs from their vast catalog. This band loves playing in New Jersey, and found a new home at the Atlantic City Beach venue.
Vermont's jam rock titans Phish unleashed a raging inferno at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland last Saturday, complete with rare songs and teases. This included a song that was played depending on who answered the question. They are waist deep in their 2022 summer tour, and continue to bring exciting and fresh jams night after night.
Phish returned to the home of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, for a blast from the past set list last Friday in Bethel, NY. The beautiful weather yielded a mild evening in a historic and natural setting that the Vermont based quartet has not played in since 2011. They certainly channeled the peaceful vibes and delivered a set full of classics.
The jam rock icon Phish triumphantly returned to Madison Square Garden for the first night of a four night stand, rescheduled from December 2021 because of complications with the COVID-19 pandemic. The show kicked off with a bang, including a type II jam in the first song, despite not having played since February 27th, 2022. The band didn't stop there, and brought a mix of old and new songs, each elevating the show in a uniquely exciting way.
Phish has announced plans for North American spring and summer tour, set to get underway on May 27-29 with a three-night Memorial Day weekend stand at Orange Beach, AL’s The Amphitheater at the Wharf and culminating with the band’s first four-night Labor Day weekend run at Commerce City, CO’s Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on September 1-4.
On March 3 & 4, Jon Fishman of Phish, George Porter Jr. (Meters) & Cyril Neville will come together for 2 nights of shows in Portland, ME to raise money for the Maine charity, Go Big For Hunger (gobigforhunger.com). Go Big For Hunger was founded in spring 2016 by life-long Mainer and live music madman, Greg Martens. He was inspired by Imagine There's No Hunger, a global campaign created to realize John Lennon's vision for a world without hunger.
The Mimi Fishman Foundation just launched a new on-line charity auction. The auction features official tour posters signed by all four members of the band. All stops of the 2021 Summer tour are included from Arkansas to Colorado. The auction is currently live and concludes December 16, 2021. Posters from the recently completed fall tour will be featured in a future auction.
Phish on October 15 returned to Sacramento, California, opening the fall tour with two sets of skillfully innovative rock, jazz, and funky songs, instrumental textures, and artistic noodling. The three-plus-hour show found Phish firing on all cylinders, including guitarist Trey Anastasio’s ever-imaginative bag of guitar tricks, Page McConnell’s incredible array of organ and grand piano keyboard flourishes, Mike Gordon’s always-solid substructural bass, and Jon Fishman’s bright, rat-a-tat-tat drumming.
