Today, singer/songwriter/guitarist Jason Sinay releases an epic new single, “Play It Alone” following the July release of “It Was You.” “Play It Alone” is the second track offered in advance of Sinay’s forthcoming double album, The Mountain, set for release January 11, 2025.
Says AMERICANA HIGHWAYS of the track: “Jason Sinay has a rich resume playing with some of heartland rock’s greatest heavyweights, for good reason, and this song lays out why. With its gently sung vocals over electric riffs and rhythms, and the lament ‘some things you can’t fight but it’s alright… hope you understand someday, everybody’s got to play alone,’ Jason continues the heartland rock legacy.”
A celebrated and sophisticated guitarist, Sinay has shared stages and studios with an array of hyper-known entities such as Jackson Browne, Keith Richards, Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, Bob Weir and more, but he is perhaps best known for his long tenure in the Dirty Knobs, a rock band led by (Tom Petty and the) Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell. Back in 2022, Jason made the hard decision to leave the Dirty Knobs after the release of their External Combustion album and right before an opening slot with The Who.
Says Jason of the moment, “I needed to go and play alone and do my own thing, and have my own journey,” hence the aforementioned song, which he contends is about a falling out with a producer—a “complicated character with his own struggles”—after a snafu with an indie record deal. “It’s about leaving a situation unapologetically, but still saying, ‘Sorry you feel that way. I get it.’ Check the lyric video HERE.
In addition to Sinay on vocals and guitar (of course), The Mountain’s first disc promises some incredible songwriting performed by a group of superb musicians that includes Bruce Watson on guitar, Phil Parlapiano on keys, mandolin and squeezebox, Doug Livingston on pedal steel, Lance Morrison or MIke Mennell on bass and Matt Laug or Herman Matthews on drums. However, less customary is the offering of a 2nd disc, featuring Sinay, just guitar and voice performing stripped down versions of the same songs.
