Kendall Street Company, the dynamic and innovative music collective, is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, “Porridge,” as the August installment in their ambitious monthly single release campaign of 2024.
Following last month’s release of “Marijuana Timewarp,” a heavy psych-rock anthem, “Porridge” is another heavy, heady addition to KSC’s sonically-diverse catalog. Fans of Soundgarden, TOOL, Nine Inch Nails, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard will love the distorted guitar, pedal-effected and driving bass, and high-intensity drumming on the track.
Bassist Brian Roy, who also provides the lead vocals on “Porridge,” discusses the song’s composition: “We were set up to play at an underground rock club–literally underground–in Blacksburg, VA as part of a weekly residency and had some extra time before the end of soundcheck. I had joked about playing a Nine Inch Nails cover set on stage at the previous week’s show, which inspired me to mess around with my pedalboard and tone before breaking out a high-energy, driving riff. The band joined in, and I started singing the first thing that popped into my head: ‘The porridge is hot, the porridge is cold.’ If I remember correctly, another band member’s bisque had just come out of the kitchen, and as we all know, bisque is basically just a porridge where you replace the grain with lobster and charge twenty times as much. I guess you could also say it’s about how Goldilocks complains too much when she’s breaking and entering. We played the song live that very night, and it evolved a bit over the next few months before we inked it in the studio.”
“Porridge” will be available for streaming on all major platforms starting August 30, 2024. Fans can look forward to monthly releases every final Friday as part of KSC’s 2024 Singles Project.
