Singer, musician, and composer Sam Amidon embarks on a US tour later this week, beginning in Seattle, WA at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center on Saturday, in support of his latest Nonesuch Records release, The Following Mountain. Amidon, who presently resides in London, is returning to the States for his first extensive tour since 2014, and will perform concerts in Portland, OR, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boulder, CO, Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York, Portland, ME and more. He will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Chris Vatalaro and performing as a trio with a variety of accompanying musicians throughout. A complete list of tour dates is below.
In other news, Amidon has again teamed with acclaimed video director John Hardwick (Noel Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys, Blur) for a new video for the song “Warren” from the current release. In it, a singing and occasionally dancing Amidon wanders his way through a wooded sunlit path — a setting that fans of Amidon’s and Hardwick’s previous collaboration, the 2013 video for “As I Roved Out,” will find familiar. The video is available to view and share HERE.
The Following Mountain represents a new approach for Amidon, who shifts here from his previous norm of re-working traditional folk songs and presents nine wholly-original compositions, with some lyrics drawing on traditional sources. Created with producer Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Regina Spektor) and Amidon’s frequent collaborator Shahzad Ismaily, the album features guest appearances by drummer Milford Graves, percussionist Juma Sultan and saxophonist Sam Gendel.
