Composed of members of New York jamband staples Escaper, Space Bacon, and Dead Wrong, Jam of Thrones honors the music of the Grateful Dead, Phish, and the Disco Biscuits.

Saturday night, Phil Lesh and Friends closed out their three-night Colorado run with a final stop at the picturesque Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, Colorado. Following two magical nights in Dillon and Vail, the group concluded the transcendental trifecta to a sold-out crowd under a near full moon, clear skies, and perfect temperatures.

Dead Set On The Bay: Island Edition will be a day-long celebration of the music of the Grateful Dead on the Mare Island Waterfront culminating in two sets of Stu Allen & Mars Hotel with performances by Lovin’ Dead, Aardvark, and Scott Guberman & Friends. The gates open at 1 pm and there will be live music from 1:30 until 10 pm, with food trucks, bar, soft drinks and an interactive Burning Man Art Exhibit outdoors on a spacious waterfront promenade. Bring your beach chairs and dancing shoes and the whole family; this is an all-ages event.

September 3rd, 1977, signifies the day my journey into the Grateful Dead culture began. At 15 years old, I wasn’t sure what I was getting involved in, but I took a chance anyway. It was a time in my life full of exploration and adventure, and all of these other people, including the band, seemed to be on the same path. There were no high-tech amenities like we have today. The people were the device, and we all moved carefully and respectfully around the planet, looking for our bliss.

The Coda Collection has partnered with Grateful Dead and Rhino to release a series of professionally filmed live performances from the iconic group. The three initial concert films provide unique insight into the singular on-stage chemistry and interactions of the band in the midst of one of their most beloved eras. Shakedown Street, Colorado’s premiere, longstanding Grateful Dead tribute group, will perform at Knew Conscious in Denver, CO on Saturday, August 28th. Doors are at 10pm and music will go from 11 pm until 3 am.

Photographer Jay Blakesberg brought his acclaimed live rock and roll presentation, “Between The Dark and Light,” to a sold-out audience at the Alcazar Theater in Carpinteria. The show was the first live event at the theater since the pandemic shut down more than a year ago. Formerly known as the Carpinteria Plaza Playhouse theater, the gem of a venue with accidental perfect acoustics has returned to its original name.

The inaugural Days Between Festival, celebrating the legacy of late-Grateful Dead patriarch Jerry Garcia and the musical score he left embedded in our soul, was upbeat and a resounding success in northern Mendocino County, California on August 6 and 7, even amidst the rage of north-state wildfires and Covid-19 pandemic 2.0. Proof of vaccination or a negative, very-recent Covid test were required for entry.
