Jerry Garcia
Jerry’s kids are all outstanding players, Steve Kimock, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, the list goes on. Only one truly has that Garcia way about him, John Kadlecik. John K came about improvisational music much like his traveling life, making do with the best around. His job is to shed light but not to master. Signing on with Melvin Seals & JGB in 2019, they are just now really running full steam.
Join us for Jerry Garcia’s 80th birthday celebration! With A Very Jerry Band featuring members of Dead Phish Orchestra and Steely Dead. A Very Jerry band is a tribute to the music and the vibe of all things Jerry. Fronted by Dave Abear, after his tenure with Melvin Seals & JGB Dave, assembled a harmony vocal heavy JGB tribute with Bill Mckay on organ, Chris Sheldon on drums and Matt Abear on bass. For the Grateful Dead song we have special guest Evan Jones of Xtra Ticket sporting the Bobby Weir parts.
When it comes to the Grateful Dead family, the old saying, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” is epitomized by Deadheads the world over. Yet we would be remiss if we didn’t understand that this is due to the quality of the parts, and their relationship with one another. The whole cannot be greater than its parts if the parts do not serve the whole. And in the end, this is why the Grateful Dead survives. We come for the music, and stay for the family. And what a family we have become.
In today’s times, with so much music out there, one can easily retreat into their known area, with their known bands, rather than take on the easily overwhelming journey of searching to find new music to their liking. Yet sometimes an album has the natural ability to float to the top of an ever-flooded market and shine forth.
This weekend is going to rock! Join us Friday night for the warm-up party at Toot’s in Crockett for Garrett Deloian, frontman of Jerry’s Middle Finger, backed by the unstoppable rhythm section of JGB and Steve Sofranko of the China Cats on keys, a very fun mash-up for a very special Grateful Friday.
