Jerry Garcia

In the fall of 1991, the Jerry Garcia Band embarked on its first extensive Fall Tour since 1984. The previous year, Jerry Garcia had kept his band close to their West Coast home base, with San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre serving as their sanctuary. While 1990 and 1991 are widely celebrated as exceptional years for both the Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band, they were marked by profound loss, including the untimely deaths of keyboardist/vocalist Brent Mydland and legendary promoter Bill Graham.

In celebration of Jerry Garcia's 75th birthday, The Garcia Project has teamed up with Jerry Day to bring northern California an exceptional run of shows. The tour begins on March 2 at Club Fox in Redwood City and continues through March 11 at The Center For The Arts in Grass Valley.

On March 10, Round Records & ATO Records will release GarciaLive Volume Eight: November 23rd, 1991 Bradley Center, recorded in Milwaukee, WI.  The two-disc set has been re-mastered from the original soundboard recordings allowing more of the warmth and vibe of the performance to shine through. GarciaLive Volume Eight is the first release in a series of archival releases set for 2017 in celebration of Jerry Garcia‘s 75th birthday on August 1. Pre-order for GarciaLive Vol.

In a surprisingly absent addition to the Jerry Garcia canon, Round Records/ATO Records are releasing the earliest known recording from the beloved multi-instrumentalist on November 11th. Three years before Garcia cofounded the American Psychedelic Rock group the Grateful Dead, the twenty-year old was exploring the American folk and roots music tradition. He had learned to play guitar and banjo in his teens and was beginning to refine his skill set as a self-taught multi-instrumentalist.

The Avett Brothers have released a video and a sneak peak of songs to be performed for their extraordinary upcoming concert event Dear Jerry: This Is 30! featuring special guest Warren Haynesone of two concerts honoring the music of Jerry Garcia coming to the DC/VA/MD area on October 14 and 15.

Fantasy Records, a division of Concord Bicycle Music, is pleased to announce the vinyl edition of the acclaimed MERL SAUNDERS/JERRY GARCIA Keystone Companions: The Complete 1973 Fantasy Recordings, out October 28th.

For the first time, the earliest known studio recording by Jerry Garcia will be released on November 11 through Round Records/ATO Records. In 1962, Garcia and his folk/bluegrass quintet The Hart Valley Drifters went into Stanford University’s KZSU studio in Palo Alto, CA to record a session for the stations program Folk Time (also the album’s title). The lost session resided in a closet for nearly 50 years before the reels were unearthed in 2008 by former Stanford student Ted Claire, who produced and recorded the original session.

Some years back, former Grateful Dead vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux MacKay made a remarkable discovery in the storage of the family houseboat. Boxes of reels taped by legendary recording technician Betty Cantor-Jackson. The Grateful Dead tapes were the first to be dusted off, restored, and ultimately released for the enjoyment of all. Recently Donna Jean found yet another box consisting of all Jerry Garcia Band reels.

Today, August 1, 2016, marks what would have been the 74th birthday of Jerry Garcia. In honor of the occasion, The Jerry Garcia Family announces the legendary artist’s live and studio catalogue is available to fans via streaming services the very first time. iTunes, Apple Music and Google Play are included in the initial rollout with additional platforms to be added soon.

On August 19, Round Records & ATO Records will release the two-disc GarciaLive Volume Seven: November 8th, 1976 – Jerry Garcia Band, a previously unreleased and uncirculated performance recorded at Sophie’s in Palo Alto, CA. The original reels, along with several other recordings, which have come to be known as the “Houseboat Tapes,” were only recently discovered by former Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux.
