Natalie Cressman

If you happened to be walking around Williamsburg in the late September weekend, taking in the unseasonably warm weather or grabbing a bite to eat, things would have seemed like any other weekend. Maybe you noticed the matching wristbands of the people walking back and forth along Wythe Avenue, or you saw the groups of people hanging around smoking cigarettes outside a few music venues from early afternoon until late into the night, but nothing that struck you as particularly noteworthy.

Still in her early twenties, there’s a sophisticated elegance that radiates around singer, songwriter and brass connoisseur Natalie Cressman. This rare aura can be felt not only through her demanding stage presence, or incredibly complex and layered compositions, but also through her kind, gentle tone and easy-going demeanor.

November is a month that symbolizes gratitude and change. These qualities capture the essence of the music that Natalie Cressman is always making. Her “genre” is constantly changing and evolving with whatever sounds that she is currently feeling and exploring. She fluxes from being in the hard improvisational Trey Anastasio Band, to covering the Weeknd and Drake, and even rapping in Spanish.

ETCHINGS IN AMBER is a duo project featuring NATALIE CRESSMAN on vocals and MIKE BONO on acoustic guitar.  A collaborative duo since 2014, Cressman and Bono have developed a repertoire of vibrant and intricate originals that incorporate a multitude of genres.  With its mix of jazz with folk and indie rock, the genre-bending music of ETCHINGS IN AMBER is complex yet very approachable.  Cressman’s voice has an alluring smoky quality, and her singing style c

Progressive jam giants Umphrey’s McGee‘s return to Las Vegas for the seventh installment of the massively popular UMBowl production was marked once again by a stand-out tour closing dual evening extravaganza where all stops were pulled out and the power given directly to the fans, for better or for worse.

The ever-changing Everyone Orchestra and its ringleader Matt Butler is a carnival collective of musicians juggling their instrumental talents in an all-out improvised landscape.

Singer, songwriter, and trombonist Natalie Cressman sets out in a fresh direction that goes well beyond the frontiers of jazz in her upcoming TRACES tour of the Midwest.   Making stops in La Crosse, WI, Minneapolis, MN, Chicago, IL, and Grand Rapids, MI, Cressman will be joined by trumpeter Ivan Jackson, guitarist Mike Bono, bassist Jonathan Stein, and drummer Michael Mitche

Natalie Cressman is a beautiful trombone player, composer, and vocal prodigy that has a long history already in her short life. As a longtime Phish fan, I started seeing her perform with Trey Anastasio Band many years ago. From that, I discovered her individual talents, and learned about her rich music history. Both her mother and her father have successful careers in music.

Trombone player, composer, and vocalist Natalie Cressman has captivated audiences with her natural ability to meld her diverse background with her career. Natalie has merged her talent and jazz skills with her seemingly flawless storytelling ability. Natalie’s unique performance will entrance you and leave you wanting more. The Music Appreciation Society is proud to welcome Natalie to the Baur’s on Sunday, August 2nd at 8 PM.

Conductor Matt Butler is a genius! However he got inspired to come up with this idea of improvisational conducting talented musicians was brilliant. The reason that I say this is because it is very pleasant and beneficial to all parties when musicians are happier than the crowd. Everyone wins! There are only a few inspirational times when that happens. I see it when I am at major festivals and musicians are collaborating, or I see it in super jams such as the Everyone Orchestra.
