Phish

On Friday, August 31st 2018, following the destruction of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park by Phish…Denver’s own, Cycles, will take the stage at city’s favorite rock club, Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in the midnight hour to celebrate the beginning of what surely will be a weekend to remember.

Due to the severe flooding that occurred in Schuyler County over the past week, the local water treatment plant that services water to the Village of Watkins Glen, including the Curveball site has been contaminated and the water supply is not safe for human consumption. The New York State Department of Health has issued a statement here.

Sadly, Curveball has been cancelled.

Jam band juggernauts Phish are in the midst of the West Coast leg of their extensive Summer 2018 tour. Fans have been wowed by the sheer diversity of setlists, unexpected arrangements, and intriguing chemistry. After the triumphant Bakers Dozen run at Madison Square Garden last summer, the quartet demonstrated their desire to explore far-off realms and keep their repertoire both expansive and tight.

Registration is now open for the third annual charity golf tournament for Phish fans - the Mockingbird Foundation's Runaway Open. This year's event will be held Saturday, September 1st (the 2nd day of Phish's run at Dick's Sporting Goods in Denver, CO) at Applewood Golf Course, with a full-course shotgun start at 10 a.m.

It was great to learn that The Trey Anastasio Trio, as listed on the schedule, was actually playing as a quartet, given that Ray Paczkowski had just returned to his keyboard the night before, after recovering from a health issue. That may have been Trey’s first real interaction with the crowd, there before the encore, where he played two solo songs with his acoustic, including a lovely “Waste,” before bringing his bandmates back for a third together. I did love how he phrased it, the news about Ray being better, genuinely thrilled to share “some good news in what seems like a world of bad news.”

Fans of Dead & Company will get to “settle down easy” this weekend when they snag a box of “Ramble on Rose” herbal tea at the band’s concerts in Boulder, Colo.

The limited-edition black tea, made with organically-harvested roses and other special ingredients, will be given away free by the non-profit organization HeadCount.org in an effort to promote voter registration and participation.

Each box includes artwork by Dead & Company poster artist AJ Masthay, and information about HeadCount and its efforts to promote voter turnout in the 2018 midterm elections.

The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series hosted at Brooklyn Bowl, The Capitol Theatre, Industry City, Ardmore Music Hall, The Sinclair, Thalia Music Hall, and the Boulder Theater allows kids to “move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon” (NY Times). Using the songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse offers its core audience of babies and kids games, movement, and stories and an opportunity to rock out.

The band then decided to pump up the energy with some more amazing covers such as “Scent Of A Mule” and “Psycho Killer”. Soon after, the band did a wild mashup of “Wish You Were Here” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity”. Blending the two songs flawlessly, Pink Talking Fish once again proved their talent in recreating classics and making it their own. Special Guests Charlie Humphreys and Matt Goldberg from Dead Floyd joined Pink Talking Fish to cover Phish’s song “Sand” as well as “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd.
