The California Honeydrops

“Good lovin’ is something we all look forward to,” says The California Honeydrops’ singer and multi-instrumentalist Lech Wierzynkski of the band’s new single, “In Your Arms.” The tune is, naturally, a reflection of his sentiment; a good time, toe-tapping love song riding on the wings of the Bay Area’s resident R&B machine.

“Nobody really wants to lose a good thing / But I see it again and again,” sings The California Honeydrops’ soulful lead vocalist Lech Wierzynkski, floating above the Bay Area R&B-tinged sound he and his band have become loved for over their last fourteen years together. “Nothing At All,” the latest single from the Honeydrops’ upcoming album Soft Spot, rides a mid-tempo groove with elements of Allen Touissant’s New Orleans-y arrangements, George Benson’s laid-back vibe, and sweet, high vocals a la Curtis Mayfield ballads.

Bay-Area R&B/Soul favorites The California Honeydrops set the scene for their new single, “I Miss You Baby Pt. 1,” with a sensual, unassuming piano intro before a snare drum crack ushers in the song’s signature staccato horn line and the dance party ensues. The juxtaposition of the song’s upbeat feel and lonesome lyrics is exactly how Honeydrops vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Lech Wierzynkski wanted it to play out. “Dance to this one to get all that reminiscing and regret out of your mind, body, and soul,” he encourages.

In their fourteenth year together, bay-area soul/R&B favorites The California Honeydrops hit the post-lockdown ground running. Tour dates and festivals returned, including the Honeydrops’ first headlining show at Red Rocks, and, much to the delight of the band and fans alike, the group returned to the recording studio to lay down a new full-length album. Today, the Honeydrops are sharing the very first taste of their upcoming release Soft Spot—out October 7th.
