The Floozies

When the threat of 50 MPH winds and impending heavy rain don't get you down - you know you're in the right place. And for a lot of people, that place was Wakarusa on Friday. Luckily, the 50 MPH winds passed us by, but our day did start off with a pretty heavy amount of rain. We're used to that by now, though.Because of the rain, several shows were cancelled, including a show I was really looking forward to seeing, Rusty Shackle.

I want to start by emphasizing the importance of keeping an open mind always, but especially when listening to and choosing live music to see. Spring is right around the corner and for many excited festival attendees the anticipation is building for the annual Summer Camp Music Festival, held at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. Since 2001, Summer Camp has consistently brought some of the largest acts in jam, electronic, bluegrass, hip-hop, and many other genres, and this year is no exception.

What’s better than being a rising star in a diverse genre that seems to know no boundaries? How about having a like-minded, equally talented brother to help mastermind the operation. Just ask The Floozies, the hottest new electronic duo hailing from Lawrence, Kansas. Producer/guitarist Matt Hill and his brother, drummer Mark Hill have been combining forces to create alien-funk beats since January of 2008 and have watched their career’s blossom with the up rise of electronic music.
