Today, North Carolina-based rock ensemble, Big Something, unveils “Bob and Weave” the second single from their forthcoming album, Headspace, arriving on November 17, 2023. The album, Big Something’s seventh official studio release, is the launchpad for the band's 60+ date nationwide tour, kicking off this fall.
Headspace leans heavily on collaboration, and “Bob and Weave,” was originally penned by Big Something’s close friend and frequent collaborator, Josh Phillips from Asheville, NC. The buoyant track sees otherworldly electronics wheeze as sun-soaked reggae riffage slinks beneath swaggering verses and an uplifting chorus. Lyrically, the tongue-in-cheek ganja-inspired wordplay completes a tune fit for 4:20 enthusiasts worldwide.
“Getting to know Josh has been so much fun. He’s an incredible singer-songwriter. From what I can tell, ‘Bob and Weave’ is basically about waking up and trying to get through the daily anxiety of life with the help of friendship — and maybe some cannabis,” MacDaniels explained.
The 12-track Headspace was recorded at the legendary Pachyderm Recording Studios—the birthplace of Nirvana’s In Utero. Accompanied by GRAMMY® Award-nominated longtime producer John Custer, the band immersed themselves in the project, living together in a serene guest house tucked into nature.
In tandem with the release of each new single from Headspace, Big Something will spotlight several non-profit organizations focused on mental health and wellness. This initiative underscores the band's commitment to raising awareness about mental health issues, an important theme that inspired much of the album.
The “Bob and Weave,” release will shine a light on The Last Prisoner Project (LPP) a national, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to reforming our criminal justice system through progressive drug policy. Through legal intervention, constituent support, advocacy campaigns, and policy change LPP aims to repair the harms of the discriminatory and counterproductive War On Drugs. For more information, please visit the LPP website.
Big Something recently ignited the stage at Papadosio’s Subterranea at The Caverns in Pelham, TN. October appearances include stops at The United States Disc Golf Championship in Rock Hill, SC (10/7), and Winston-Salem, NC’s Millenium Center for “Big Something’s Haunted Mansion” (10/28).
Fans can catch Big Something performing “Bob” & Weave” live during their nationwide "Headspace Tour," commencing in December 2023. The massive tour includes a momentous New Year's run (December 29-31, 2023), at Raleigh's Lincoln Theatre, and stops in Colorado (March 6-9, 2024), California (March 19-23, 2024) and the Midwest (April 2024).
