Today marks a significant milestone for renowned funk/jam band Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, as they release their much-anticipated seventh studio album, Day In Time. Known for their electrifying live performances and dedicated fanbase, the Maryland quartet continues to redefine the boundaries of funk, rock, and psychedelic groove with their latest studio effort.
Day In Time features a vibrant collection of tunes that encapsulates the band's dynamic energy and musical evolution. The four-piece welcomes an array of acclaimed guest artists on the record, including Ben "Smiley" Silverstein (The Main Squeeze) on synths for the title track, Alric "AC" Carter (TAUK) on keys and synths on "Beneath The Surface” and “Overtime" respectively, with Joey Porter (The Motet) adding rhodes on “Overtime” alongside Carter. "Let The Boogie Out" comes alive with the thrilling addition of Here Come the Mummies’ horn section, while Chalk Dinosaur provides keys and effects on the instrumental standout, "Skinner."
Recorded and mixed by Steve Wright at Wright Way Studios in Pigeons’ hometown of Baltimore, MD, Day In Time showcases the band’s top-tier tightness and artistic maturity. Lead guitarist Jeremy Schon notes, "This album is the most cohesive group of songs we’ve ever had in the studio. All of the tracks really represent our current writing style and where we are as a band today."
As for the title, “What is an album if not a ‘day in time’?” reflects vocalist and guitarist “Scrambled Greg” Ormont. “This record is a snapshot of our band as a group and as individuals at this exact moment. The title serves as a reminder that life moves fast, so we better make the most of each day, make each second count.”
The album's singles, "Alright Tonight,” “Day in Time,” “Feelin' Fine,” and "My Own Way," have already captivated listeners with their intricate melodies, dynamic rhythms, and uplifting lyrics.

On "Alright Tonight," Ormont recorded his first in-studio guitar solo, while “Overtime” features debut studio solos from bassist Ben Carrey and drummer Alex “Gator” Petropulos, exemplifying the band's steadfast drive for sonic growth. Meanwhile, "Feelin' Fine'' emerges as a beacon of positivity, crafted to bring smiles to listeners’ faces with its buoyant melodies and inspired harmonies.
With Day In Time, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong continues to push the envelope, crafting songs that resonate with their fans and the broader music community alike. Their 2024 tour promises to bring these new tracks to life on stage, alongside the band's expansive catalog of fan favorites.
