He's been known to show a mandolin and viola who is boss, while still keeping his humble frontman persona intact. A modest yet instrumentally explosive enigma, Drew Emmitt captures the attention of the audience as if they were a herd of famished field mice lured in by a hefty corncake crumb.
Most tribute bands fall short of capturing the true essence of their musical pioneer predecessors.
Picture this: it's the night before the New Year and throngs of revelers in all stages of anticipation are moving on downtown Boulder. Some of us are eager to put the shit behind us and start anew, others of us are ready to step it up a notch and make the next year even better, some of us are just out to party, and still others are wondering where we all go from here. 2009 has a lot worth to look forward to – a new president, a new age of reason, and a new chance to do all the stuff we forgot to do last year. And what better way to ring in the New Year than with the loudes
Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the GRAMMY® Award winning vocal group from South Africa that has conquered nations in its own way with a joyous and spiritually charged brand of vocal music and native choreography, pays tribute to this historical icon with their new Heads Up International release, Ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu. Ilembe celebrates not only Shaka Zulu but the sense of perseverance, creativity and pride that he has inspired in generations of descendants.
Halloween is a festive occasion across the nation, but few places are able to boast the sort of debauch festivities Boulder, Colorado is known for. Hit the Pearl Street Mall starting at around 8 pm and treat your eyes to a cornucopia of sights, including the Naked Pumpkin Run (just what it sounds like), the "Anything Goes But Clothes" costume contest at the Lazy Dog, and generally more sexy, sultry, scandalous and skintastic costumes than you could shake your stick at. A mainstay of Bould
Another Friday night in Downtown Boulder, CO. It was one of the biggest crowds I'd seen lately at the Boulder Theater, the kind where once you're in, you're only getting out again at the expense of your standing room – it would be filled by someone else when you get back. I felt extremely lucky to have been there at all, since the show was sold out, had been for a week or more, and I only just got the call telling me I would be on the clock covering the show earlier in the afternoon.
While dancing amongst the sold out crowd at the Boulder Theater it became clear to me…..why haven't I seen this band before? This relatively unknown band performs like a veteran group, with a commanding visual presence and an amazing display of musicianship to back it up.

As I walked up to the Boulder Theater on Friday night there were a ton of people standing out side. Normally these are fans having their last cigarette before heading into the venue for the show. But tonight all of these people were looking for anyone with an extra ticket. I grabbed my ticket from will call and headed in to the all ages show. The place was packed! I heard there were 115 people on the guest list, not to mention the fact the place was sold out by Friday morning.
