Furthur
Hark! October 16th doesn't just mark the steady march of autumn leaves. Today, it echoes the beats and chords of Bob Weir, the ageless bard who's been the tie-dye heartthrob of countless. Happy 76th Birthday, Bobby!
As the Earth completes another revolution around the sun for Bobby, we find ourselves in sheer awe. 76 years? Could’ve fooled us! Perhaps he’s sipping from a secret fountain of youth between sets or sprinkling his guitar with a dash of age-defying fairy dust. Whatever the secret, we’re all ears, Bob!
Ten year anniversaries are certainly something to celebrate, and that is exactly what Joe Russo's Almost Dead did this past weekend with a four night run of shows in the New York City metro region. The performances were at the Brooklyn Bowl for the first night and the Capitol Theatre for the rest.
Jerry’s kids are all outstanding players, Steve Kimock, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, the list goes on. Only one truly has that Garcia way about him, John Kadlecik. John K came about improvisational music much like his traveling life, making do with the best around. His job is to shed light but not to master. Signing on with Melvin Seals & JGB in 2019, they are just now really running full steam.
But I am very glad to finally be looking at 2020 in the rear-view mirror! It has been interesting seeing how different artists have been coping with the pandemic and related restrictions. I have, like everyone of course, had to cancel and reschedule a number of shows and scaled waaaaaay back on touring. Fortunately, I had been working on my Solo Acousti’Lectric show pre-covid and have been able to hang in there doing occasional outdoor events and extremely reduced-capacity indoor events.
This will be the first time Rob Eaton & John Kadlecik have played together since John K left Dark Star Orchestra to play with Furthur in Fall 2009!
We hope you all had as spectacular of an Halloween as possible under the, ah... current circumstances. I'll be doing a special all-Grateful Dead livestream performance tonight on YouTube at 7:15p EST in honor of the "Day of the Dead" and the 50th anniversary of the release of American Beauty!

Acclaimed Brooklyn-based drummer Joe Russo has released a new single entitled "Auld Lang Syne" (listen/share) on New Year's Eve.
The socially-charged track was produced by Sam Cohen at his studio, Jupiter Recording, in Brooklyn. It features Russo on vocals, mellotron, various keys and drums, as well as Arcade Fire reedman, Stuart Bogie on saxophone and clarinet.
Joe Russo has announced his debut solo album 'phér•bŏney' will be released February 7 on both limited edition neon violet and black vinyl via Royal Potato Family. Initially a surprise release on digital formats earlier this summer, the LP editions mark the first time the recording will be available in physical form. Throughout 'phér•bŏney,' Russo defies expectations with a collection of dreamy instrumentals and vocal tracks, channeling a sublime, reflective musicality.
This weekend the John Kadlecik Band celebrates Jerry Garcia's birthday with a couple of shows: tonight at the Hamilton in Washington, DC, and Saturday at Bear's Picnic Music Festival in Blain, PA! This JKB run will feature Jay Lane, Benjie Porecki, and Wavy Dave and will be putting extra focus on the music of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Feed your belly (and your head) and bring your dancing shoes!
