This is Dylan Muhlberg of Grateful Web here with Organ maestro, vocalist, and bandleader Melvin Seals. Since 1981 Seals sat behind organ, piano, and synthesizer for Jerry Garcia Band. His gospel, soul and blues influences were pivotal to the evolution of Garcia Band’s sound. All the more remarkable, since the untimely passing of Garcia in 1995, Seals assembled a talented lineup of musicians to continue Jerry Garcia Band’s music.
When the Grateful Dead hit the workingman's town of Frenso, California on July 19, 1974, they were undeterred by the blazing heat and inspired by the enormous "thundering machinery" they'd brought along. With the Wall of Sound, they felt they'd reached a whole new level of symbiosis. Can you hear what they heard on that fateful night?

There’s something about Grateful Dead tunes that no other song, lyric or melody can really duplicate. There’s something about a Grateful Dead song that reminds you of every happy moment, every smile you’ve seen from a stranger, and makes you want to dance. I was lucky enough to roll in the New Year with that warm, comforting feeling of the Grateful Dead with the longest touring Grateful Dead cover band, and one of my greatest muses, Dark Star Orchestra.

Dead & Company, the latest Grateful Dead-family arena band, has made its way to California, for two shows at San Francisco’s venerable Bill Graham Civic Auditorium before heading to Los Angeles to close out the year.
The gargantuan summer Fare Thee Well concerts represented a few milestones for the Grateful Dead. To celebrate the band’s fifty year anniversary the four living members, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart collectively decided two concerts at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California and three more at Chicago’s Solider Field would be the last time all of them got together to perform as The Dead.
2015 was a pivotal year for the Grateful Dead. Various important concert events marked the band’s 50-year landmark. Even more remarkable was the overwhelming fan and academic support by way of undeniably canonical releases. The finest tribute to the Dead’s late guitarist and beloved bandleader Jerry Garcia arrived a few weeks ago from one of the band’s most esteemed insiders.
