Funk-flash masters The Motet out of Denver, CO are releasing TOTEM on July 8, 2016, the 7th LP since their inception in 1998. The Motet consists of Dave Watts (drums), Garrett Sayers (bass), Joey Porter (keyboards), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), Gabriel Mervine (trumpet), and Drew Sayers (saxophone), and recently added Lyle Divinsky (vocals) with TOTEM being his first album with the group
Colorado’s own progressive funk outfit The Motet returns to their hometown for a headlining show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Friday, July 22. Joining The Motet on the bill are Medeski Martin & Wood and Vulfpeck, with DJ Mikey Thunder spinning between sets. The show comes just two weeks after the release of The Motet’s brand new studio album, Totem, set to hit streets July 8, 2016.
Today, Colorado-based funk rock band The Motet announce the release of their new studio album, Totem, due out July 8th, 2016. Progressive funk collective The Motet recently announced 2016 Winter Tour plans. Among the plans - a selection of vocalist friends, old and new, will join the band along their upcoming Winter Tour dates. On the list of special guests are Tanya Shylock, LaDamion Massey and Paul Creighton – all familiar voices to Motet fans because of their amazing appearances during The Motet’s special “Mixtape” performances over the past couple of years. It’s a little bit strange that in 2015, almost twenty years since drummer Dave Watts began holding impromptu free form improvised funk jams under the moniker Motet, that now the band is finally getting the national recognition it’s due. Maybe it really isn’t so surprising. They spent their formative years developing original material and finding the right full-time players and much of the 2000s throwing impressive tribute shows to the finest icons of rock, funk, soul, jazz and disco.
