Umphrey's McGee

On Saturday, March 18, the improvisational-jam based and progressive aggressive styling of Umphrey’s McGee returned to the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles for the third time in as many years.

Last Sunday, March 12, the Chicago-based progressive aggressive improvisational six piece known as Umphrey’s McGee crammed themselves, their full arsenal of gear and a fraction of their typical lighting array onto The Grate Room stage at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA.

On February, 2, 2017, Grand Rapids, MI welcomed Umphrey’s McGee. The “Umph” brought the “umph” to the first night of its “Mitten Run,” being the second act to open the brand new 20 Monroe Live in downtown Grand Rapids. It was a night of hot music in a hot venue.

What an honor it was to see one of my favorite bands in one of my very favorite cities, and with some of my very favorite people. This year I traveled my way three hours to Chicago by car then by train to get to the Aragon Ballroom on December 30th, 2016 to see one my favorite bands of all time Umphrey’s McGee.

2016 was a year that much of the country would like to do over. Between deaths, elections and Kanye West, it was year of unremarkable lows. However, for Chicago, IL, 2016 was granted a hassle-free All Access Pass when the Chicago Cubs, the beloved baseball team from the North Side, broke a 108-year drought and won the World Series.

Jamband sensations Umphrey’s McGee brings its unique sound to the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater Friday, Aprilk 28th, 2017 / 8PM in a most intimate performance.  Big Something opens the show.  Tickets go on sale starting on Friday, January 13th / 10AM.

Umphrey's McGee returns to Chicago for three year-end concerts. Thursday December 29th at The Riviera Theater (sold out) and Friday/Saturday, December 30th & 31st at The Aragon Ballroom. For tickets: http://www.clubtix.com/umphreys-nye-2016

There is only one band in today’s musical landscape with the audacity, creativity, and all around brass balls to pull off such a unique and totally off-the-wall project, and that group is Umphrey’s McGee.  The sextet have never been shy about performing outside the box and this month will be releasing their newest studio album called Zonkey, a collection of mixed up cover songs intertwined within each other.

A big heart felt thank you to Peter Shapiro and Dave Frey, and all the staff and volunteers who helped to make Lockn’ Festival 2016 the best one yet! The music brings the love out of us all and flowing into the open air like the chem-trails! It's not as easy to see, but it sure is easy to feel and fun to capture. Thank you, Nelson County for opening your community to our community for this fantastic experience.

To call them a jam band, is to under emphasize their talents beyond this style. True, they play long form, but there is never a wasted moment in their creative output, which was primarily instrumental, but with some impressive vocal hooks. Yes, they play long form, but there is never a wasted moment in their creative output, which was primarily instrumental, but with some fancy vocal hooks.
