I have been blessed with the opportunity to share my very first Northwest String Summit experience with you all. I will do my best to honor this festival’s long history, while explaining my first experience, not only with this festival but at Horning's Hideout. This festival is in its 18th year here in Oregon, and it’s hard to think of another festival in such a serene location. That’s a whole generation of people growing up in this festival, which is something very unique and beautiful.
The Grateful Dead is such majesty and completeness that when a great version of it comes along, the vibes come along too. Dark Star Orchestra has been recreating Grateful Dead sets for over 20 years now. On 7/5/2019, DSO performed their own tailored setlist to a beautiful evening at River Edge Park Aurora.
With 3000 shows in sight (currently at 2904 shows performed), Dark Star Orchestra today announces the plans for the first leg of Fall Tour 2019 launching September 27 in Chicago followed in quick order by returns to Milwaukee, Madison, and Minneapolis.
In just a couple of months, on July 18-21, North Plains, Oregon will see the return of one of the country’s premier bluegrass and roots music festivals, Northwest String Summit. Hosted every year by presiding band Yonder Mountain String Band, the four-day event will see top-billing sets from other veteran performers like The Infamous Stringdusters and Trampled By Turtles, as well as invite newcomers from across the musical spectrum, like Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Dark Star Orchestra, Galactic and more.
On a Grateful Dead National Holiday (May 8), touring juggernaut Dark Star Orchestra announces today their plans to return to the Jewel Paradise Cove in Runaway Bay, Jamaica for their eighth annual “Jam in the Sand” oceanside festival January 14-18, 2020. Featuring four nights of two-set shows from Dark Star Orchestra, the event will also host three shows from each of the special guests: Melvin Seals & JGB along with Donna the Buffalo.

On Friday, March 29, DSO performed at the St. Augustine Amphitheater and recreated 3/29/69 from Las Vegas, NV on its 50th anniversary where they were joined by special guest Roosevelt Collier who shared his electric slide skills on 'It Hurts Me Too' & 'Viola Lee Blues'.
The 18th Annual Northwest String Summit (String Summit) is one of the top boutique live music experiences in the country and presents today's leaders in the Americana, Bluegrass, Indy Rock, and Jam genres. It all happens at the iconic Horning's Hideout (North Plains, OR) from July 18 - 21, 2019. Located just 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Horning's Hideout, a private family-owned reserve of old-growth trees, wild peacocks, ponds, and campsites, is among the West's most awe-inspiring festival sites in the country.
As Dark Star Orchestra plows towards nearly 3000 shows performed over 21 years (current count: 2870), today announce plans for its Summer tour. This eastern-US-focused tour features three announced historical recreations, where DSO will be performing two sets from 1979 and one from 1989. Summer Tour concludes with the recently-announced Dark Star’s Pisgah Jubilee, a two-night festival at the Pisgah Brewing Company in Black Mountain, NC featuring four sets of DSO over two nights plus special guests Peter Rowan, Midnight North, The Lil Smokies and more.

Fresh off their seventh Jam in the Sand Festival on the beaches of Jamaica, Dark Star Orchestra today announces the second leg of their Spring Tour. The band continues their spot-on Grateful Dead set recreations this May with a pair of multiple night stands while focusing on the Northeast.
