It was four days of continuous music not interrupted one bit by a rain storm that lasted into the night Friday when the 9th Annual Wanee Music Festival returned to The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) in Live Oak, Fla where the artists that can be described as the royalty of music perform.An estimated 60,000 fans of bands like The Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, Michael Franti, and his band, Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Jaimoe's Jasssz Band, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Leon Russell, Tower of Power, Les Cla

The Lee Boys are the finest “sacred steel” ensembles I’ve ever had the pleasure to see. Within just a few notes, I and everyone I was with for the evening knew The Lee Boys had something special happening.  The band members include three brothers, Alvin Lee , Derrick Lee and Keith Lee.  They are joined by their nephews Roosevelt ‘The Doctor” Collier, Alvin Cordy Jr., and Earl Walker.

Their love didn’t fade away. Our love didn’t fade away. We’re gonna love Furthur (and Wanee!) night and day.

Florida is a place unto itself, by my estimation. Like the other ‘big states’ of Texas and California, it takes on its own unique identity and presence. These states are so large, they are their own ‘region;’ and again by my estimation, include elements of all that is around them. Florida is neither just southern, nor merely coastal. Florida has elements of east coast culture, due in no small measure to the strong concentration of New York retirees, the so-called ‘snow birds.’ Florida also has significant aspects of Cuban and Mexican culture elements, as well.

Hey kids! Sorry this review is so late, but life always gets in the way once you return from a fest huh? Anyway, I moved to another state so that was a bit disruptive, then I got almost entirely finished with this little piece here, and the house got struck by lightning! And wouldn't it just figure that the two things that got smoked were some files I had open on another computer (including this review) and my beloved stereo! Heartbreak all around. I digress.
