Jerry Garcia's impact on bluegrass music will be on full display for the next two years at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in Owensboro, Kentucky. The exhibit, called Jerry Garcia: A Bluegrass Journey, opened on March 28, 2024, with a historic weekend of music, panel discussions, documentary screenings, and other festivities honoring the late Garcia's career.
One might say The High Hawks are a modern-day Roots supergroup, or perhaps just great friends who love to make music together. Either way, it's real magic happening that can't be ignored. You could not put together a more road-savvy group of personalities. These guys all met on the road, passing through the same venues and sharing time on the festival circuit.
The Bay Area was awash with live music during the final days of 2023. During the week leading up to and including New Year’s Eve, live music fans in the region could choose The String Cheese Incident, LCD Soundsystem, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Les Claypool’s Bastard Jazz, Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew’s “Remain in Light” Talking Heads tribute, Charlie Musselwhite, and Jerry’s Middle Finger, among others. And of course, some folks stayed home to stream Phish.

Vince Herman is out to have some fun. 33 years after founding Leftover Salmon, Vince released an album of his own and hit the road to play a batch of songs developed in his new Nashville home. There’s some bluegrass and Cajun influences and honky tonk ballads all piled atop great players taking the tunes for a ride.

You could say that Chris Castino is a writer of dance music. Not the kind you hear at any club. It’s the kind you hear at a Dead show, or festivals, when the crowd moves together spinning and bouncing like an ocean of blissful and emancipated souls. Chris is the primary songwriter for his longtime popular Minnesota-based rock’n’roll jamband The Big Wu.
There’s nothing quite as freewheeling and fun as calling up a few buddies to get together and play music, creating a bond, and, if the stars align, walking away with a song or two. Now imagine if the friends were tenured professional touring musicians who’ve just never quite had the chance to all be in the same room at the same time. That’s exactly how the newly formed, feel-good Americana collective, The High Hawks, came to be.
Kitchen Dwellers have announced a livestream and virtual auction titled “Love for Boulder” that will air Saturday, March 27 via the Relix
A little over a week ago, five-member progressive string band Horseshoes and Hand Grenades released their brand-new album, Miles In Blue, and just last night, they performed the album in its entirety via a special, two-hour live-streamed set.
